Art Yarn SpinningINSTRUCTOR: Jan Massie
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate (must know basic spinning techniques.) MATERIALS: $50 (collected by instructor at class) STUDENTS TO BRING: Bring all of their spinning equipment DESCRIPTION: Learn spinning techniques such as Fiber Salad, Raw Fleece,Un-carded, Thick and Thin, Coils, Beehives, Spiral Ply, Poofs, Coreless, and More. INSTRUCTOR BIO: I respect boundaries but take great pleasure in nudging them. "I am fascinated with color." That fascination started with my first box of crayons,.. and continues today as evident in my colorful, dyeing and Spinning. Working with my hands, and meeting the challenge of stepping out of bounds, has been a lifestyle. With the attention span of a gnat, I have used this quality to funnel my creative ideas into many different venues, be it for only a short moment...I love to learn new things and push my mind and hands. Basic Brioche and Beyond! |
INSTRUCTOR: Ivy Sipes
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate MATERIALS: $6 (collected by instructor at class) STUDENTS TO BRING: Two colors of worsted weight yarn, at least one solid color US 4-6 16” circular needles. Notions bag, (tapestry needle, stitch markers, etc) DESCRIPTION: Students will learn the basics of brioche and beyond. We will start with a swatch worked flat and practicing stretchy cast ons and basic two-colored brioche stitch. We will then move to working in the round by knitting a brioche hat, and finally making those stitches move by working increases and decreases! Along the way, we will trouble shoot brioche problems like ripping out and fixing those dropped stitches. Hey! It happens and we will fix it. INSTRUCTOR BIO: Ivy Sipes has been knitting since she was nine years old. Ivy has spent the last seven years devoting her time studying knitting and achieving her Level 1 Masters in hand knitting from the Knitting Guild Association. While teaching knitting, to beginners and experienced knitters alike, Ivy been inspired to design easy to knit patterns without losing style. Ivy has been self-publishing patterns on Ravelry, as well as for her yarn store, Your Daily Fiber. She designed a series of easy headbands for the Brown Sheep Company and had the winning design for Skacel’s DIY knit-ccessory necklace competition, recently her designs have been featured by Knit Picks and Skacel’s newsletter. Beginning Inkle Weaving |
INSTRUCTOR: Robin Wilton
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner
MATERIALS: materials fee only applies if renting loom from the instructor or purchasing yarn
STUDENTS TO BRING: Inkle Loom and Shuttle, Scissors, Note taking materials, 3/2 (recommended) or 5/2 Pearl Cotton in 3 contrasting colors, about 3 oz. of each color, Carpet warp in any color (for making heddles) Students can share, 4 or 5 Popsicle sticks if you have them
DESCRIPTION: Inkle Weaving is a fun way to learn about weaving without the investment of expensive equipment to start out. An Inkle loom is a portable belt loom that can be warped up in an afternoon and woven in 3-4 hours. Inkle bands can be used to make belts, straps bookmarks, ornaments and more. In this beginning two-day workshop, you will be warping your loom and start weaving on the first day. In the second day you will have plenty of time to weave off your project, cover drafting your own patterns and learn some finishing techniques. Bring your own loom and shuttle or rent them at a cost of $5. Yarn can be purchased from the instructor for a materials fee of $10 or bring your own.

Known also as “the Weaving Lady”, Robin specializes in doing programs about weaving and spinning to Denver metro area children in schools and at events. Robin has taught Inkle Weaving for shops and weaving guilds throughout the Front Range for many years.

Dive into Felt-making |
INSTRUCTOR: Deb Tewell
SKILL LEVEL: All (Students must have a modicum of wet felting experience with prerequisites including having a working knowledge of felting processes, understanding basic felting terminology, and the ability to lay out roving in even layers). MATERIALS: $20 (collected by instructor at class) STUDENTS TO BRING: embellishments (optional) DESCRIPTION: Warm and cozy, light and airy, chic and distinctive; felted accessories add pizzazz to any outfit in any season. You’ll see the versatility of felt by learning some basic felting techniques and a few secrets of the trade. You will take home several projects of your choosing. Learn easy cord-making techniques, surface design, and dimensional felting. Learn how to add felted layers onto felted layers, and how to incorporate fabrics and angora goat locks into your felting. In this 2-day class, the instructor will show finished felted examples of each project, demonstrate the various techniques used to create them, and teach procedures necessary to complete: a bag, fingerless gloves, a hand puppet, a beret, and a felted necklace. You will take home fab and funky felted items—maybe all of these, depending on your preference and your individual felting touch. The class has been developed to allow for the most individuality possible so each student will be able to focus on techniques and creativity. With step-by-step instructional handouts you will be able to take your learning beyond the classroom to create more felted projects on your own at home. INSTRUCTOR BIO: Deb Tewell has lasting interest in working with her hands and combining fiber with color inspiration. She has learned various techniques from master felt-makers and taught many others the craft. Deb enjoys creating wearable art as well as dimensional sculptures. Her work has won numerous recognition ribbons at the Taos Wool Festival (2007, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2018), honorable mention at the Poudre Art Gallery Fiber Expo (2010), second place and Award of Merit at Albuquerque Fiber Fiesta (2017), was juried into Wearable Accessories at the Fiber Celebration Exhibition, and earned the Best of Show award at New Mexico Arts & Crafts Festival (2017). Deb is organizer of the annual Felter’s Rendezvous in Estes Park, CO, an event that brings together nationally-known instructors and students from across the country for four fabulous days of felt-making and fiber camaraderie. RE-VAMP; from square to scarf to shawlINSTRUCTOR: Elaine Sipes
SKILL LEVEL: All (basic weaving skills) MATERIALS: $25 (collected by instructor at class), rigid heddle loom rental available. Choose from a variety of warp and weft yarns best suited for drape-ability; i.e.: rayon, alpaca, chenille, and suitable blends. Looms and yarns available at a discounted rate through Your Daily Fiber. Call for details; 970-484-2414. Orders and rentals need to be placed by April 20th. STUDENTS TO BRING: Rigid heddle or 4 harness loom 12” width minimum, scissors, tape measure, basic weaving tools, basic sewing notions, sewing machine optional. DESCRIPTION: Beginners and experienced weavers alike will revamp basic scarves and shawls by adding buttons beads trimming, surface designs and finally cutting them into different shapes. All beginning with basic square or rectangle. Students can choose from a variety of projects.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: At four years old, Elaine Sipes was taught to knit by her older sister who thought Elaine would be much easier to babysit if she was quiet and entertained. Being artistic, Elaine was soon designing her own knitting patterns. It would be a hobby she would enjoy for the next five decades. Graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Art Education and a concentration in weaving, Elaine furthered her interest in yarns, where they come from, how they’re made, and its uses. Elaine is an accomplished knitter, spinner, and weaver. Her award-winning wearable fiber designs have been featured in magazines and trade shows across the country, as well as Australia and Japan. Elaine with her daughter, Ivy and husband Darrell, are the owners and teachers of “Your Daily Fiber” yarn store in Fort Collins, Colorado. Scandinavian Skinnfell - Sheepskin CoverletsINSTRUCTOR: Anette Skoog
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner MATERIALS: $175 (collected by instructor at class) STUDENTS TO BRING: Scissor, Thimble, Note book, Quilt ruler (24"x6") DESCRIPTION: In this class students will learn all skills needed to complete their own skinnfell made from 2 sheepskins. We will start teaching basic techniques used in the larger project, beginner´s are welcome! Class schedule includes: History, Selection of sheepskins, Equipment, Basic techniques for hand-sewing in sheepskin, Steps for making a skinnfell, Framework & Decorative details, Woodblock printing - theory & practice, Own project & Practice time INSTRUCTOR BIO: Anette Skoog is a D.V.M, Gotland Sheep Breeder, Scandinavian skinnfell maker and fiber artist. She works with sheepskin and veg-tanned leather to create both wearable and decorative items. Learning the handcraft techniques in her country of origin, Sweden, she found it important to preserve and use the old hand-sewing and wood block printing techniques to get the right finish. Her signature work, large sheepskin coverlets with printed and painted pattern are inspired by the Scandinavian tradition. Anette has shown her work in several judged fine art & craft exhibitions and shows around the United States, including the American Craft Council show, Baltimore, Winter Park Art Festival, Florida and One of A Kind, Chicago. She has also won several awards for her work including at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival, Rhinebeck 2017. She has worked with furniture and fashion designers, to create beautiful interior design and wearable one-of-a-kind pieces made of Gotland pelts. Anette teaches classes for students interested to learn more about the possibilities using sheepskin as a unique fabric. Her background as a Gotland sheep breeder with the production of pelts was the starting point for making things in sheepskin. Tapestry techniques in the Rio Grande StyleINSTRUCTOR: Letitia Rogers
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate MATERIALS: $75 (collected by instructor at class) STUDENTS TO BRING: A loom that is warped. DESCRIPTION: This class will cover the basic shapes used in the weavings of the Southwest in what I call the Rio Grande technique. INSTRUCTOR BIO: Starting on a rigid heddle loom, I started weaving in 1975. Moving to Santa Fe, NM brought me in contact with expert weavers who I was lucky enough to take many classes from. For the last 43 years, I have repeatedly continued my love of the Rio Grande style weaving including teaching this technique for the last 8 years. Contact Instructor |
